One Day Seminar on PMFME Scheme

The Directorate of Industries in association with the line department like Fisheries, Agriculture, Rural Development, NABARD, CIARI and Andaman Chamber of Commerce & Industries, organized one day seminar in the Conference Hall of the Directorate of Industries, Middle Point, Port Blair on 13/10/2020 under Prime Minister Scheme for Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PM FME)”.

The inaugural session was held in the forenoon between 10.00.-11.00 AM. Shri. Abhishek Dev, IAS, Secretary (Ind.) inaugurated the seminar as Chief Guest in the presence of Ms. Veditha Reddy, IAS, Secretary (Agriculture), Shri. Y. Mashar, General Manager (NABARD), Dr. A.K Kundu, Director (In-charge) CIARI, Shri. Utpal Sar, Director (Fisheries), Shri. Ajit Anand , Director of Industries and Officials of various department.

In the inaugural address Secretary (Ind.), A&N Administration elucidated the important aspects of PM FME Scheme and the scope of Fish Processing sector that can be harnessed for creating enterprises in the Islands. He also stressed the need for organizing similar programme in other two Districts of A&N Islands on the identified “One District One Product (ODOP)”. In addition, the Secretary (Ind.) asked the Department of Industries to explore the possibilities of establishing marketing linkages through online platform so that the products manufactured in the Islands finds better price

Secretary (Agri.), highlighted the scope of Coconut based Industries in the Islands and requested the Dept. to organize similar programme in different locations.

The speakers from NABARD, CIARI, Fisheries Dept. also addressed the participants and presented the interventions of the respective departments/ agencies.

Earlier, welcome address proposed by Shri. Ajit Anand, Director of Industries. Key note address was delivered by Deputy Director who explained about the broad frame work of the scheme and its implication in the present scenario.

The inaugural session ended with a vote of thanks proposed to the dignitaries and participants.

Immediately after the inaugural session, a technical session was organized. Shri. Sindupathi Raja, Nodal Officers (Food processing), Directorate of Industries made a power point presentation elaborating about PM FME Scheme, in details and responded to the queries raised by the participants.

This was followed by presentations made by Dr. K. Gopal, Joint Director, Fisheries Department on the topic “Fishery resources and scope for its value addition with market”, Resources Persons of CIARI presenting on “Value added marine fish products- Role & support provided by CIARI” and Smti. Reshma Singh, ANIRLM presenting on “Discussion on Current Status of SHGs in food processing sector, difficulties faced and support for its consolidation”. The programme ended with Q&A session.
